Custom Monument Signs in Pierce County, WA
Your entrance is where people decide they've found the right place. A good sign out front makes that easy: your name reads clearly from the driveway, the sign fits the property, and it still looks sharp years from now. We've been a local sign shop since 1984, and as a monument sign company we design, build, and install monument signs for businesses, churches, schools, and neighborhoods across Pierce and King County.

A Monument Sign Built for Your Property, Not Pulled From a Catalog
Every sign we make starts with your site: how far away people will see it, how fast they're driving past, what the building looks like, and what local code allows. Then we build a sign that fits all of it.
Sandblasted wood and HDU faces. This is our specialty. Lettering and artwork stand raised from the surface, so the sign has depth you can see from the road and feel up close. HDU (high-density urethane) carves like wood but won't rot, warp, crack, or draw insects, and it comes in faux woodgrain or faux stone finishes.
Sign faces for stone, brick, and masonry bases. Already have an entry wall or base, or planning one? We make the panels and lettering that mount to it, so the sign matches the building beside it.
Lighted monument cabinets. When your sign needs to work after dark, we build illuminated cabinet faces for a monument base and coordinate the wiring with our licensed electrical contractor partners. Where internal lighting isn't allowed, external lighting can still keep your sign visible at night.
Design help from day one. Bring your logo and we'll build the layout around it, or start from scratch and we'll design it with you.
How Your Monument Sign Comes Together
- Tell us about the property. Call or send the quote form with your address, a rough size, and any logo files. Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF, or SVG) work best, but we can work from high-resolution images too.
- Plan the placement. We work out where the sign will sit, how drivers approach it, and what's around it, so it's sized to read clearly from the road.
- Approve a full-color mockup. You'll see your sign in color and to scale, and we revise it until you're happy. Nothing goes into production until you approve it.
- Handle the permit. Requirements change by city and sign type. When a permit is required, we can handle the process for you.
- Build it in our Orting shop. A deposit starts production. We make the sign faces, graphics, and all wood and HDU work in-house, and every sandblasted sign is hand painted and sealed for Washington weather.
- Install. Our team installs your sign. Industrial poles and electrical hookups go through our licensed electrical contractor partners, and we coordinate the schedule so you aren't juggling trades. The remaining balance is due when the job is complete.

What Shapes the Cost of a Monument Sign
Every sign we build is custom, so we price each one once we know the details. These are the biggest factors:
- Size, and whether one side or both sides carry graphics
- Face material: sandblasted wood, HDU, aluminum, or acrylic
- The base: mounting to an existing wall or base versus adding a new one
- Lighting: non-lit, an internally lit cabinet, or external lighting, plus the electrical work
- Permits, site access, and ground conditions where the sign will stand
The more you can share up front (size, location, materials, and design ideas), the more accurate your quote will be.
Request a quote with whatever you have, and we'll fill in the rest together.
Four Decades of Monument Signs That Last
We've been building signs in the valley since 1984. That experience shows up in the details: the right material for a shady entrance that stays damp all winter, letter sizes that actually read from the road, and finishes that hold their color.
Your sign is built by the same people you talk to. Design, fabrication, sandblasting, and painting all happen in our Orting shop, so you're never passed between companies. We're licensed and bonded, and our customers rate us 4.9 stars on Google.

Monument Signs at Work Around the Region
Our signs are made for the places people arrive: subdivision and HOA entrances, churches and schools, business parks, wineries, and trailheads. Each one should welcome visitors and point them the right way, in a material that suits the setting.

Monument Sign or Pylon Sign?
Both are freestanding signs, but they solve different problems. A monument sign sits low on a solid base near your entrance, so it's built for people reading at close range: visitors turning into a lot, walking up to a building, or looking for a neighborhood. A pylon sign stands tall on poles so it can be seen from farther away and from faster roads, which is why you see them at shopping centers, hotels, and highway businesses. If your property needs to catch drivers before they reach the turn, a
pylon sign
may be the better fit.
Monument Sign Questions We Hear Most

What is a monument sign?
A monument sign is a freestanding sign that sits low to the ground on a solid base instead of on poles. It usually stands near a driveway or entrance, where drivers and visitors can read it up close. Common uses include business entrances, office parks, churches, schools, and subdivision entrances.
Do I need a permit for a monument sign?
Usually, yes. Freestanding signs are regulated by the city or county where your property sits, and the rules cover size, height, and setback. Unincorporated areas follow Pierce County's permit forms and handouts, while cities like Puyallup and Tacoma set their own. A lighted sign also needs an electrical permit. When a permit is required, we can handle the process.
Can a monument sign be lit?
Yes. We build internally lit cabinet faces for monument bases, and our licensed electrical partners handle the wiring. Some cities and property owners don't allow internally lit signs, so we can also add external lighting that keeps your sign visible at night.
How long does a monument sign take?
Most of our standard projects take 1 to 3 weeks after design approval. Projects that need a permit, lighting, or a new base usually take longer. Call us with your project details and we'll give you a realistic timeline.
Do you make HOA and subdivision entrance signs?
Yes. Sandblasted wood and HDU are popular for community entrances because they give a neighborhood a carved, finished look. HDU is the easy-care choice, since it won't rot, warp, or crack like natural wood can.
an you update the lighting in an older monument sign?
Yes. If your lit sign still uses fluorescent or incandescent bulbs, we can remove the old components and replace them with LED lighting. You get a brighter, cleaner-looking sign without replacing the whole cabinet.
